OLD BUSINESS - LAKE LEVEL SITUATION

Charlene Peterson had requested the County Road Commission have the State of Michigan court-
ordered lake level re-surveyed and a new marker set at the Shakey Lakes Dam. Recently the lake was re-set to the regulated level of 682.75 feet above sea level. Heavy rains, snow melt or dry years can

temporarily raise/lower the level. The order acknowledges that Mother Nature plays a role and therefore the lakes will fluctuate.

The County Road Commission has set the boards to correspond with the mandated lake level. Due to
the expense involved (est. $1000/trip) they are not seeking to adjust the dam any further unless there
would an unforeseen dire emergency. In the future with the lake level set as regulated, there should no longer be a need for adjustment. Also under consideration is how to install a drawdown gate that would not involve mechanical removal of boards should the need ever arise. Two expressed their frustration with the requested lowered level because they had trouble removing
their boats from their boat lifts.

OLD BUSINESS – PURPOSE/ FUNCTION OF THE SLA
Discussion on whether to disband the SLA was brought forward again since attendance and lack of
interest in the SLA had drastically waned over the past decade. This has been an ongoing topic of
discussion. The Shakey Lakes Association has no authority over the lake level. The County Sheriff’s Dept (as well as MI DNR officers) reign over marine patrol of the lakes. The County has re-established the proper local lake level based on State court-order. Suggestion was made to disband present SLA and allow those interested to create a new association developed with a new mission statement and bylaws. As a part of the recommendation to dissolve the current (2019-2020) Shakey Lakes Association: a motion was presented to disburse the funds to the County Park for improvement of the Boat Launch area (which almost everyone who has a boat on the chain of lakes uses for launch and haul purposes), and would have been beneficial to all. The Whispering Pines Club has their own launch area and was adamantly opposed to using the funds for any improvements at the Park boat launch that would benefit ll users. Motion was made to disband the (2019-20) SLA by Charlene Peterson and supported by Pat Liebman. Motion denied. (see motions under disbursements which were made prior to motion for dissolution)
